A Memorable Kind of Birthday

Guess who's back?! Finally, am I right? Goodness I've been slacking. So, a memorable birthday, what's that all about?

Before I get started on the actual day, I will mention a little snippet of the day before, or more specifically, the afternoon before. Since the virus has been more or less overcome where I am right now, I've finally been able to see a few of my friends again (however, while obviously still being very careful). So, on the afternoon of the 3rd, I had two of my fellow 'professional bakers' over to help me make a cake. After spilling egg on the counter, breaking the measuring cup and loads of mocking and laughter, we had success in the form of a slightly funny-tasting chocolate cake. Sadly, I don't have any photos of our lovely creation.

Right then, let's fast forward to the following day :). For the first time ever, I was woken up by a call at midnight with the person on the other end being even more excited than me, because of me picking up exactly as it hit 00:00. After that, I got woken up a second time at a little past 5am by a long text from my night-owl friend. After  safethat, I was safe from further surprise wishes until I was fully awake a few hours later.

The day flew by until there was only a matter of minutes left until three of my closest friends were due to arrive. NOW THAT is when I got very restless and was just about counting down the seconds before I heard the first knock on my door.

Some beautiful flowers and aromatic petels I received :)

Goodness, I don't even know where to begin from here. The presents I received were extraordinary and the company of my favourite people made the evening all the more special.

We had a quick swim in a very pungent chlorine pool and had dinner. After that, the real fun began. There is almost too much too remember, and therefore way too much to relay to you, but what I can say for definite, is that I had the absolute best birthday. Even after 5 days, it is still all I can think about.

I feel extremely greatful for the fact that, unlike a lot of people, I was able to celebrate my birthday in the company of three of the best people I know. And I feel even more greatful to have those three people as my trusted companions (who are very likely to have a little friendly cringe at this bit when they read this entry). Turns out, all you really need to be happy is a random day, and the people closest to you to add a few bright sparks to it :)

And that's us)). It only just caught my attention that we subconsciously lined up in order of height.

  1. Omg you're back! I'm sure that I can say for a lot of people that: We miss you :D

Happy belated birthday! It's so lucky to celebrate it with friends, sometimes they are all you need. Btw, for the second last picture, your friend (or is that you?) Is kind of transparent for a moment BSJSGXH idk what's up maybe you guys are secretly superhumans but that was just a funny thing I wanted to pointed out.

Lovely entry. Happy belated birthday again and welcome back!

What is Songkran?

Songkran is the Thai New Year’s National holiday. It is usually celebrated between the 13th - 15th of April. Not only is it a nationwide celebration in Thailand (where I currently live), but it is also celebrated in many other parts of South Asia, like Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Religious rituals, such as paying respect to parents and teachers by pouring water over their hands are performed, alongside others which I unfortunately do not have enough insight into. People, both locals and foreigners alike, dress in colorful floral shirts and roam about the streets either throwing water, targeting each other with water guns, putting watered-down powder onto each other’s faces, or trying their very best to escape from all the craze, which, I must say, is borderline impossible. I have participated in the celebrations for many years now, and I think that it’s great fun, especially if you have a friend or two by your side. Last year, a friend of mine and I came b...

Happy Songkran!

Hello, welcome back)). Let's breifly summarise the weekend, shall we? :) On Saturday morning I wokeup with very sore legs, which was the expected result of a 1,000 suqat challenge I impulsively decided to do on Friday evening. Yes, you read that right, 1,000 squats, which absolutely destroyed me. Needless to say, I have been forced to make quite the effort to wobble around for the past three days. I baked some nice cookies on Saturday, which got a very good laugh from one specific person who claimed they looked like horse droppings. See for yourself, and let me know if you agree with the opinion: Sunday was they day I attempted (key word here) to make homemade ice-cream. It ended up having a consistency of frozen chocolate mousse, so I wouldn't say it was a complete (another key word) fail. Here's a quick snap I took: Sunday was also the day I was given some lovely chocolates. I've been intermittently eyeing the pack for the entire day today and re...

Read of the week (#1)

Welcome to the first part of this segment I decided to create)). I decided that every week I will recommend you a short story which I found interesting, since I tend to read a lot of those. This week's 'Story of the week', if you wish, is 'When It Happens ' by Margaret Atwood. The story is written in a third-person narrative, and follows a fifty-one-year-old lady called Mrs. Burridge. Mrs. Burridge has a very fatalistic outlook on life and imagines, in astonishing detail, situations that she thinks are bound to happen sooner or later. She is a practical and realistic character, and thinks through every imaginable aspect of her future predications. One of these apocalyptic-like situations is described in the story. I won't go into any more detail to in order avoid spoiling the best bits, but I have to mention that there is a nice little plot twist at the end of the story :) So guys, if you have time, give this one of the many Atwood's masterpi...
